Houston rap legends go after hoodie hater Geraldo Rivera in new Trayvon Martinvideo
The shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin at the hands of self-appointed neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman has received attention far beyond Sanford, Fla., where the shooting took place on February 26.
In cities across the U.S., from New York to Houston to Los Angeles, concerned citizens have mobilized in rallies to protest the justice system's handling of the case and the pervasive racial inequality that it brings to light.
As Chris Gray of the Houston Press first reported, even local rappers Willie D and Scarface of the Geto Boys reunited for a musical tribute.
"Hoodiez (The Trayvon Martin Justice Song)," which became available on iTunes on Tuesday, speaks of the important part that basic article of clothing plays in public perception of the case — especially after Fox News' Geraldo Rivera claimed that "the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin's death as George Zimmerman was."
The song's accompanying video launched on Wednesday and was taken down from YouTube shortly after; an edited version came out on Thursday.
And thankfully so, since there are a few choice lyrics that truly can't be missed. The following is a personal favorite:
Geraldo Rivera shut your face
Sanford Police check yourself
Fox News go to hell
Rush Limbaugh you can eat the pickle"
Willie D has been been vocal about Martin's death, both on Twitter and in interviews, so the straightforward song doesn't seem so surprising. Watch it above and tell us what you think.
