Separating the .com from the porn
The .xxx domain for porn is coming — but is that a good thing?
The days of, "No, seriously, honey — I accidentally stumbled upon this site full of fake-breasted, bronze-roasted women engaging in enthusiastic fellatio like it was the best thing they've ever tasted!" are numbered.
That's because online pornographic sites will hopefully be repositioning themselves on an easily identifiable domain — .xxx.
You're probably familiar with the Internet standards already — .com, .org, .gov. Now we'll be adding the tawdry dot-triple-X to the repertoire.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (thankfully, just ICANN) board approved usage of the domain for naughty websites. But the .xxx concept is still hitting a few red lights when it comes to actual website penetration, and some adult industry haters absolutely refuse to swallow this proclamation whole.
While it might feel like the first time they've tried to push the .xxx domain through, it's not. And right now, it's actually hard to say whether this premature resolution will stick on this go 'round.
Guess we'll just have to hang out and wait for the money shot.
Speak up now, or forever hold your piece — err, peace. Is the .xxx domain an orgasmic idea, or a nightmarish morning-after?
