To The Rescue
Houston SPCA rescues 82 animals from 2 separate incidents in just 24 hours

Once healthy, many of the rescued animals will be available for adoption.
In a dramatic 24-hour period, the Houston SPCA rescued a total of 82 animals from two unrelated hoarding cases across the greater Houston area, underscoring the continued need for vigilant reporting and community support in combating animal cruelty.
The first incident unfolded on Tuesday, June 3, when Houston SPCA Animal Cruelty Investigators, alongside Harris County Constable Precinct 1, responded to a property in Tomball.
What they discovered was heartbreaking. Nine cats were found crammed into filthy wire kennels and had been left without adequate food, water, or sanitation. Tragically, six deceased cats were also discovered on the premises. Two dogs, also kept in unsanitary wire cages, were rescued. All surviving animals were transported to the Houston SPCA’s Animal Hospital, where they are currently receiving comprehensive medical care.
Less than 24 hours later, the Houston SPCA was once again called into action, this time in Pasadena. On Wednesday, June 4, investigators responded to a home in the Red Bluff Terrace neighborhood.
Inside, they found a staggering 70 small dogs living in squalid, overcrowded conditions. The home’s interior was contaminated with feces, urine, and extensive clutter, creating a dangerously unsanitary environment. In addition to the dogs, a bird was also rescued from the scene. All animals were removed safely and are undergoing medical evaluation and treatment.

“These types of cruelty cases are heartbreaking, but they also serve as a powerful reminder of why our work is so critical,” says Travis Crisman, vice president of shelter services at the Houston SPCA. “We rely heavily on members of the community to report cases of animal abuse or neglect. A single phone call or online report can literally save lives.”
The Houston SPCA’s swift response and successful rescue efforts are a testament to the organization’s commitment to protecting animals in the Houston area. Their animal cruelty investigations team of 10, the largest in Texas, are trained professionals who work tirelessly to ensure timely intervention.
All of the rescued animals are currently receiving individualized treatment, and some will need to heal for several months in a foster home. Once healthy, many of them will be made available for adoption.
The organization urges the public to remain alert and to report any suspected cases of animal cruelty. Reports can be made anonymously online at www.houstonspca.org, where photos and videos can be uploaded. Additionally, the community can support these life-saving efforts by donating or volunteering.
