A new reader's choice poll from USA Today, highlighting the 20 best public seasonal light displays in the nation, features two of the area's most notable destinations for holiday lights. The Houston Zoo and Galveston's Moody Gardens are included in the list — selected by Deborah Norville, host of Inside Edition — for their impressive light spectacles during the holiday season.

Visiting the Houston Zoo's Zoo Lights is an annual tradition for many area residents, with this year's event featuring more lights — over two million to be exact — than ever before. The event, which runs through Jan. 4 (closed on Dec. 24 and 25), also includes a walk-in snowglobe, perfect for taking the best holiday family photos.
Moody Gardens' annual Festival of Lights is celebrating its 13th year as the island's premier holiday light display. The event, which runs until Jan. 3, not only features more than a million lights, but also a skating rink, ice slide, 100 sound-enhanced animated light displays and nightly live entertainment.
The Trail of Lights at Zilker Park in Austin was also named as one of the 20 best displays for the poll, totaling three Texas spectacles in all. The annual holiday event features a lighted ferris wheel, live performances, food trucks, shopping opportunities and a Santa Claus photo set-up.
The current leaders in the poll, which continues until Dec. 15 at noon, are the Festival of Lights at the Mission Inn Hotel and Spa in Riverside, Calif. at No. 1 and the Night of Lights in downtown St. Augustine, Fla. at No. 2.
But there's time to change the results if you vote now.
