Macy’s Mistletoe on the Go! is flying high
Peter Pan may be the boy who never grew up, but former Olympic gymnast Cathy Rigby has. Rigby has been touring in the play Peter Pan since 1972 and when it hits The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts this week, Rigby will be celebrating her 60th birthday!
And she’s still flying high.
Peter Pan is the perfect treat for the whole family during the holiday season and Theatre Under the Stars’ performance is just as fresh and fun as it was in the 70s.
But there’s even more reason to head downtown to The Hobby Center this week — like a giant mistletoe ball swinging from a 15-foot-tall candy cane.
Macy’s Mistletoe on the Go! project in collaboration with the Downtown District in which the aforementioned mistletoe ball is traveling around to five stops in downtown Houston. It will be at The Hobby Center until Dec. 10 before moving over to Fish Plaza in front of the Wortham Theater Center. For every couple’s “kiss-mas” photo under the ball that is posted on facebook.com/visitdowntownhouston or tweeted to @downtownhouston with the hashtag #MOTG!, downtown Macy’s will donate a dollar (up to $5,000) to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
“Theatre Under The Stars and The Hobby Center are happy to support the Mistletoe On The Go! initiative,” said John Breckenridge, president and CEO of TUTS. “Tis the season of giving and we are glad to take part in this worthwhile campaign that supports children in need. Just like the story of Peter Pan teaches us, childhood is a cherished and magical time when anything is possible. We encourage families to celebrate the holidays with us at Peter Pan and also to snap a photo under the mistletoe for a good cause.”
Still have shopping to do? Visit Macy’s at 1110 Main Street with your stamped letter addressed to Santa at the North Pole and drop it in the store’s special Santa mailbox. For each letter received, Macy’s will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, up to $1,000,000, as part of their national I Believe campaign. And for weekly downtown Macy’s Mistletoe on the Go! specials and discounts, visit downtownhouston.org or facebook.com/VisitDowntownHouston.
“The Downtown District is so thrilled to be partnering with wonderful partners such as downtown, TUTS and Hobby Center,” said Angie Bertinot, director of marketing and communications for the district. “They’re putting the fun in fundraising while also helping us showcase downtown’s wonderful attractions and holiday events.”
