Call it the law of diminishing returns that makes it worthwhile for people like Texas Gov. Rick Perry to jump off the stump and come home for the Thanksgiving holiday.
In a Fox News poll, Democrats, college grads and minorities are most likely to think that Wall Street execs are bigger turkeys than Washington politicians.
Conventional political wisdom says that voters take a mental break from politics during this family oriented holiday weekend. Some analysts even suggest that retail politicking may backfire, annoying values voters who would rather hang out with their own families—and might wonder why the candidate knocking on the door is not hanging out with his or her family themselves.
Tuesday night’s debate in D.C. was the only significant event scheduled this week for Perry, who returns home to Austin in time to spend Thanksgiving away from the appetite-killing rigors of the GOP Republican presidential campaign trail.
“It’s a holiday, and he’s spending time with his family,” spokesman Catherine Frazier said earlier this week.
