At 2 p.m. a tractor trailer truck travelling west on I-10 crashed into the median close to the Elysian overpass near the Saint Arnold Brewery. The rig caught fire, killing the driver.
All but one inbound lane of traffic are closed, as firefighters and police officers investigate the accident. Two outbound lanes remain open.
“I was driving east, when I saw the truck hit the wall,” eyewitness Selvin Diaz, a truck driver from Houston, told CultureMap. “When the truck exploded, I got off the highway as fast as I could to see if I could help. So did a lot of other people. Firetrucks put out the fire quickly."
TxDOT public information official Raquelle Lewis said the lanes will be closed until the area is cleared and the highway is checked for damage. Houston Police Department will conduct a final investigation before all lanes will be reopened.
As of yet, HPD's Vehicular Crimes Division has not released the victim's name.
