Exotic peacock thieves are on the loose in the Houston area: Bird dealers warnedof plot
Spring resident Diane Falbe has raised and sold peacocks for years on her peaceful homestead, which she calls "a little slice of paradise."
But its sanctity was threatened earlier this summer when thieves stole birds from right under her nose.
As KHOU is reporting, a trio of women posing as interested customers visited the farm and absconded with Falbe's prize male Java green and four peachicks.
Falbe later posted a Craigslist ad warning other bird dealers of the thievery (a similar theft was reported in Santa Fe) and piecing together the details of the plot.
The alleged thieves worked in concert, taking turns distracting Falbe while others snatched the birds. She didn't notice until after the women left in their Cadillac Escalade that several peacocks — estimated to be worth $900 to $1,000 — were missing.
But Falbe does claim a small victory: "[The peacocks] want to scratch your eyes out with their spurs, and I know what happened when she got in the pen with the bird, the bird attacked her and knocked her down," the birds' rightful owner said with a fist pump.
