YouTube star Casey Neistat creates surprisingly emotional video on Hurricane Harvey clean-up
Casey Neistat, a video artist with over 7.7 million subscribers on YouTube, has created a new clip that gives into some insight into the destruction wrought by Hurricane Harvey's floodwaters. Published Monday, the 11 minute clip that shows his in-laws cleaning out their flooded Meyerland home and the volunteer group Team Rubicon working in Friendswood has already garnered over 1.1 million views.
In a particularly emotional sequence, Neistat's father-in-law Stanley Pool recounts how he had to smash a skylight with a hammer in order to escape the rising water. In another, Neistat's jewelery designer wife Candice and her family carefully lay out drenched photographs in an effort to preserve them.
After leaving Meyerland, Neistat heads to Friendwood where he joins up with Team Rubicon, a non-profit organization that provides jobs to veterans. There, he walks through a house that's been completely gutted after flooding. Stick around to the end; Neistat utilizes drone footage to show the extent to which the Friendswood neighborhood has been affected.
