Pirates overrun party planner's warehouse on a magical treasure hunt
When more than 50 youngsters completed the Youth Development Center's summer enrichment program recently, a celebration was in order. After all, they had spent several weeks participating in "From Sea to Shining Sea," an educational virtual tour of the U.S.'s most iconic national parks.
The YDC's summer program is designed to engage students in a structured environment that broadens their horizons and gives them learning opportunities they would not normally have. The fifth Ward kiddos, ranging from first through sixth grade, lapped up the parks "visits" and were ready to party at program's end.
Step in The Events Co. honcho Richard Flowers, a YDC board member committed to helping enrich the lives of the youngsters. He hosted the pirate-themed get-together at The Events Co.'s wildly entertaining warehouse and called upon a few like-minded friends to help out.
The kids prowled the vast space on a treasure hunt, had their photos taken with pirate props courtesy of Genesis Photographers, got up close and personal with J&D Entertainment's kid-friendly monkey, lunched on goodies from Little Bigs and enjoyed gourmet snow cones from Aubrey Sellers' Blizzard of Oz.
