What Is Rice Diploma Worth?
A degree from Rice or Texas A&M is worth more than University of Texas diploma, study says
Although they won't face the University of Texas at Austin on the football field this fall, Rice University and Texas A&M University can both claim victory over UT after being named the first and second most valuable degrees in the state, respectively, according to Affordable Colleges Online.
Rice and A&M each come in at more than a $1 million return on investment (ROI). Rice is No. 1, with a $1,069,000 ROI, followed by A&M at $1,057,000.
The recently released results place UT at third, with a $931,100 ROI.
In determining the most valuable degrees, researchers looked at alumni salaries, pay scale and federal data on education, while also analyzing the Carnegie Foundation ranking for each school.
Locally, the University of Houston came in at No. 7 with a $786,000 ROI; Texas Southern University ranked No. 30 with a $424,300 ROI and the University of St. Thomas was at No. 46 with a $246,000 ROI.
But don't worry, Longhorns. Although Affordable Colleges doesn't think your degree is worth as much as an Owl's or Aggie's, you can take solace in being named the 25th best university in the world, far above both Rice (75) and Texas A&M (156).
