it *could* be irritable bowl syndrome
Are we perpetually pissed? Houston ranked the second most irritable city inAmerica
It seems that the traditions of Southern hospitality and amicable Texan attitude have gone to the wayside: Houston ranks number two among America's "most irritated cities," according to a new poll conducted by Sperling's BestPlaces.
Only our sunbelt sister city Atlanta ranks higher when it comes to cantankerous citizens. The study was commissioned by Edge Shave Zone as part of promoting its anti-irritation shaving cream. Edge called upon comedian John Caparulo to promote the most pissed-off cities.
Many locals would disagree with the results, saying that Houstonians share an agreeable disposition, begging the question, "Who did Sperling's question?" Yet further analysis reveals that there's a lot to complain about.
Common Houston complaints like pest control, traffic congestion and the heat index were among the 11 irritation factors taken into consideration while polling. Other swampy cities like Washington, D.C. and Tampa earned a place in the Top 10.
Houston may have narrowly avoided the worst of the recent recession and is indeed a haven for young professionals — but if you've ever been mired in Galleria traffic, dealt with a broken air conditioning unit or encountered a late night cockroach, then you know that Clutch City has a lot to kvetch about. Or could it just be the wealth of ethnic food options giving us irritable bowl syndrome?
