California office not answering calls
Hot, A/C-less, full-price movies continue at the Angelika: Two theaters stillstifling with repairs ever "imminent"
Going into the weekend it's still going to be stifling at a few screens at the Angelika Film Center.
If you're planning on seeing Cyrus or Solitary Man over the weekend (which is supposed to be the hottest weekend of the summer so far), be warned — theaters five and eight, which are playing the films, are without air conditioning. So's the lobby.
These aren't exactly movies that no one wants to see either. Cyrus stars hot comic Jonah Hill and Hollywood heavyweight Marsia Tomei. Solitary Man is a Michael Douglas vehicle.
CultureMap first reported that the Angelika was without AC in two theaters — and still charging full price for the movies in those theaters — last Sunday. Another weekend is here and nothing has changed on either front.
Although an assistant manager at the Angelika told CultureMap Tuesday that the negotiations holding up the repair were coming to a close and a functional AC was "imminent", the staff admitted there was still no functioning air conditioning on Friday afternoon. Multiple calls to the managing Reading International office in California all week did not produce any response.
We say skip the sleeves, it'll be anything but chilly in these theaters. And maybe don't make it a date night, unless hot and heavy sweaty's your style.
