Forbes released its annual list of the word's 500 largest companies, and Houston has a clear win over our arch-rival Chicago. There are six Bayou City corporations on the list compared to the Windy City's lousy two.
ConocoPhillips was No. 6 in the country; Marathon Oil Corp. ranked 43; Sysco Corp. was No. 57; Enterprise GP Holdings ranked 94; Schlumberger, also based in Paris, ranked 111; and Plains All American Pipeline ranked 131st.
Chicago, on the other hand, can claim only Boeing (No. 91) and Exelon, a dismally low number 491.
What's to be learned from this? Houston fuels the world, while Chicago just supplies the airline industry it's trying and failing to take over.
Houston, win.
