Yahoo targets dead email accounts: Is your information in danger?
For some, an email account is everything, whether it is for business or personal use. From numerous contacts, calendar events and communicating with friends and family across the world, there's often information there that would be more than frustrating to lose.
Which is probably so many people seemed to be worked up over Yahoo!'s decision to reset the email accounts of "inactive users" and give those email names to new users.
If you haven't signed into your a Yahoo! account lately and you want to keep it, make sure you log in before July 15.
To avoid deactivation, Yahoo! recommends that you sign in to your account monthly.
Yahoo! is sending out emails to remind users — who haven't accessed their account in more than a year — to sign in to prevent it from being deactivated. Of course, they'll be sending those emails to accounts that aren't being checked regularly. Every time you sign into your account, it will be extended by one year.
