Switching teams: Inn at the Ballpark is becoming a Westin in downtown hotelshakeup
Sports fans can wave goodbye to the Inn at the Ballpark — well, to the name, at least.
CultureMap has learned that the 200-room hotel that sits adjacent to Minute Maid Park (and is familiar to many as the home of Vic & Anthony's steakhouse) is set to be renamed and rebranded as the Westin Houston Downtown by Dec 6. Westin already has the hotel on its website with that opening date.
It's unclear whether Landry's, the current owner, has sold the property to Westin parent company Starwood Hotels or whether Westin will be managing or franchising its name to the hotel. Representatives from Landry's and Starwood did not return CultureMap's calls for comment.
The already launched landing page for the Westin Houston Downtown promises modern facilities and Westin-standard amenities like the "Heavenly" bed, so it's possible there will be some renovations or at least an aesthetic upgrade. Reservations on the Inn at the Ballpark website are currently available through Dec. 29 with no notice of any break in service.
