Pet of the Week
Meet Johannes the sweet Springer mix, CultureMap's pet of the week
Name: Johannes, as in Johannes Brahms, the classical music composer most famous for his "Brahms Lullaby," or as I like to call it, in its original German, Wiegenlied. Also, Johannes Gutenberg, who changed the way information is recorded and spread with his printing press.
(Speaking of printing, it was two years ago this week that I quit the Houston Chronicle and print for CultureMap and online. Of note, this year, for the first time, the Boston Globe has more paid subscribers to its Internet site than its print newspaper. You can’t stop progress.)
Birthdate: October 20, 2017. I’m 56 pounds of twisted steel and sex appeal, just entering the prime of life in dog years, with a long, long way to go.
Ethnicity: The breed determinator here at Citizens for Animal Protection has me listed as a Jerry Springer spaniel and Basset hound mix, but she’s only guessing. Maybe she should just throw every dog breed in a Yahtzee Cup, shake it up real good, and whatever pops out … that’s me.
More important, here’s the dealio on me. Everybody at the shelter loves me because I’m so laid back and gentle. I get along great with children and other animals. I’m obedient and kind. I just love hanging out with people and being part of a family. Like yours maybe? I have all my shots, I’m fixed, healthy, housebroken, and good to go home.
Come and get me: I'm available for adoption at 11 am Friday, May 24 at Citizens for Animal Protection (17555 Katy Freeway; 281-497-0591). Tell them, "Ken sent me."
