Supercharged solar gift brightens up Friends For Life animal rescue center
Leave it to Reliant to light up the lives of residents at the animal rescue center Friends For Life. The energy company has donated a $110,000 solar panel installation to the shelter's Don Sanders Adoption Center.
The gift, which will continue to give back for many years to come, offsets roughly 13 percent of the facility's annual electricity consumption. The no-kill animal shelter intends to put the savings to good use by providing lifesaving treatment to seven heartworm positive dogs and neutering 113 cats; thus, preventing more than 2,268 births.
Friends for Life's mobile adoption vehicle also received a solar panel upgrade. The technology not only helps keep the vehicle's battery charged, but also reduces the use of diesel generators and powers onboard equipment, from the refrigerator to the water pump, ensuring that the animals are comfortable and healthy no matter where they roll.
In celebration, Friends For Life and Reliant recently teamed up to host a community adoption event where cats and dogs greeted more than 100 potential “fur-ever” owners while staying comfortably cool.
