Spend some green at local stores and restaurants to help keep Houston green
Eat up, shop 'til you drop and show some love for the city’s green spaces this weekend.
Several local non-profits, including Buffalo Bayou Partnership, Houston Audubon and Katy Prairie Conservancy, have joined forces for the fourth annual “Give 5% to Conserve Houston” campaign, which happens Saturday (April 18) from 8 a.m. – 11 p.m.
The day-long event will help raise funds for environmental education and research in the Houston-area.
Show your support by opening up your wallets and hitting up participating retailers and restaurants. Grab a bite at a roster of restaurants, from Cafe TH to Tacos A Go Go, and pick up some great fashion finds at trendy spots like Manready Mercantile and Chloe Dao.
Five percent of gross sales from these stores and restaurants will go to Houston Give 5.
“Houston has such a charitable, philanthropic spirit -- you have so many non-profits doing wonderful things around the city -- but it’s not often they get to collaborate," says says CultureMap’s Joel Luks in this week's KHOU CultureMap Moment. "April 18th is a wonderful time when they will all come together to do something fantastic for the environment, and raise awareness about our natural surroundings. And that’s worth shopping for.”
