Eyjafjallajokull.
No, that wasn't my head hitting the keyboard. That's the name of the volcano that erupted in Iceland yesterday, halting air travel in much of Europe.
And although hundreds of residents are fleeing the resulting flooding, the rest of the world seems more irritated by the inconvenience than concerned for Icelanders. Tweeters have been among the most harsh, with status updates like "Dear Iceland, we said, 'send cash' not 'send ash,'" while the media focuses on the plight of grounded travelers. Poor darlings. Check out photos of the actual craziness here.
Iceland lies on a volcanic hot spot, and although most eruptions occur in areas that are thinly populated, there is fear that Eyjafjallajokull's lava could melt the ice that covers another nearby volcano called Katla. And that could be really bad.
