Houston hospitals rocket through U.S. News & World report rankings
Houston hospitals are reaching new heights according to recently-released medical rankings. A solid four hospitals within the Methodist Hospital System have been selected by U.S. News & World Report for its first-ever Best Metro Area Hospitals list, with Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center snagging No. 1. Coming in second and third in Houston region on the list are University of Texas M.D. Anderson Caner Center and St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital.
San Jacinto Methodist Hospital, Methodist Willowbrook Hospital and Methodist Sugar Land have been respectively awarded No. 8, No. 13 and No. 18. The hospitals are ranked by U.S. News & World Report by 16 specialties, for which Methodist is nationally ranked in 13. Texas Children's Hospital, which is nationally ranked in 10 specialties, rose to the top of youth medicine.
The report analyzed all 52 U.S. metropolitan areas with one million-plus populations. Scan the entire roster here.
Thomson Reuters has also released its 100 Top Hospitals study, which deems Memorial Herman Hospital System at No. 22 nationally among teaching hospitals. That system includes Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital, Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital and Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital.
On line with its 2010 rankings, Thomson Reuters favors Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital in the medium community hospitals category. For the first time, Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital has been recognized in the small community hospitals category. The study ranks hospitals in 10 areas such as mortality, average patient stay and heart failure rates.
