Killer fog: Striking images from the dense gloom that crippled Houston and triggered traffic madness
Fog in Houston doesn't come in on "little cat feet," as poet Carl Sandburg most beautifully described this mysterious cloud.
Rather, it pounced on the city this Monday morning, catching many people on their way to work or school or just awakening completely by surprise. The National Weather Service declared a Dense Fog Advisory for the Houston area because of the low visibility in the morning The dense fog wreaked havoc on the roads with numerous crashes, including a fatal wreck on the Katy Freeway that blocked six lanes of traffic shortly before 10 a.m.
Earlier, a 19-year-old driver was killed when he smashed into a tree and a light pole in the foggy, wet conditions.
The heavy, early morning fog coverage is giving way to scattered rain as a cold front now moves through Southeast Texas.
Fog, rain, sleet, hail and snow in the past seven days. What's next? Maybe only the postman knows.
