It ain't no thang
Another reason we ♥ Hou: It's a city of second chances
One of the many things we love about Houston is that ours is a city of second chances. It's one of the few places in the world where a pesky white collar crime conviction doesn't inhibit your opportunities or make people hesitant to touch you with a 10-foot pole.
In fact, it's quite the opposite — some stand-out examples of respected ex-cons include Lea Weingarten, wife of convicted ex-Enron exec Andrew Fastow and current independent curator for private collections; Oscar Wyatt, who plead guilty to making illegal payments to Saddam Hussein's Iraq and is perhaps better known as the husband of our beloved Lynn Wyatt; and Jeffrey Stern, who's been enjoying a bit more public sympathy ever since his wife threw her support behind him after he was accused of hiring his mistress to kill her — along with bewilderment as to why she continues to stand by her man.
Roger Clemens, accused of lying to Congress, and Harris County commissioner Jerry Eversole, accused of taking bribes, have stayed in the public eye as they await trial. Eversole has even held onto his job.
Heck, even Robert Durst eats his chocolate croissants in relative peace. In Houston, more than anywhere else, we ask: "Who are we to judge?"
