With tight budgets and the price of hay skyrocketing, the Houston Police Department is raising money to support the mounted patrol with a new "Adopt-A-Horse" program. Individuals and corporations can sponsor any of the 31 horses currently in the unit for $5,000, including the right to name each steed.
If you can't pony up the money for your own pony, you can still name one of the horses policing around town. The Houston Downtown Management District has adopted a horse and is taking name suggestions on its Facebook page until Jan. 27.
Here's a few ideas to get you started:
10. Of Course
As suggested by Kyle Nielsen, because "Of course is a horse, of course, of course."
9. Why the Long Face?
That joke never gets old.
8. Hilary Duff
Because those veneers were not okay.
7. Twatwaffle
I'm really curious how far HPD will let these sponsored names go.
6. Equus
What better name for a horse that patrols the Theater District?
5. Twilight Sparkle
In tribute to the best New York Times correction of all time.
4. Fancy
Every stable has at least one whorse.
3. The Meineke Car Care Horse 2012
Ughh it's going to happen anyway so you might as well.
2. Lightning
That was the name of my rocking horse when I was 3. We were quite the pair, Lightning and I.
1. Hayyyyy!!!
"Hello, officer, what's your horse's name?" "Hayyyy with five y's and three exclamation points." That exchange right there is worth the five grand.
