High-end West U purse thief tracked down in Maryland: Perp loved those Hermes handbags
One of the Houston's alleged high-end purse thieves is behind bars.
After eight Hermès handbags — estimated to be worth $200,000 — were stolen from a West University home in December, a multi-state police effort sprang into action. And Maryland State Police arrested and charged a Baltimore man with the crime this week.
Edward Bryant, 40, is now being held on a fugitive warrant in Maryland. Warrants were issued in Texas to charge Bryant with burglary and theft over $100,000 and Texas authorities have already begun extradition proceedings against him — as detailed by KHOU 11.
West University Place Police say that eight Hermès bags were stolen from a neighborhood home on Dec. 7 and they were able to identify Bryant and another individual as suspects. West University Police contacted Maryland State Police and requested assistance with the investigation. Bryant was subsequently arrested at his home this week.
Police tell Instant News West U that four of the eight bags were recovered at an undisclosed location including three Hermés Birkin bags, two valued at $38,000 each and one worth $30,000, and a Kelly bag valued at $15,000.
The search for the second suspect is ongoing.
