A gathering of eagles
Bush, Baker, Cheney and Powell to headline a Desert Storm 20th anniversarygathering in Texas
In some ways, it hardly seems that two decades have passed since America held its breath as President George H.W. Bush announced that the United States would lead the international effort to free Kuwait from the hands of an Iraqi invasion. That anniversary of the Persian Gulf War will be marked Jan. 20 with a gathering of key figures of the conflict at the George Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University.
Veterans of Desert Shield and Desert Storm are invited as special guests.
Highlight of the Gulf War retrospective, that will bring together Bush's foreign policy team and foreign dignitaries, will be a roundtable discussion on the historic events that led to the liberation of Kuwait. Joining 41 in this milestone event are alumni of his administration: Vice President Dan Quayle, Secretary of State James A. Baker III, Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Colin Powell, National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft and then-Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney.
Rounding out the group will be the emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah; Kuwait Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Sabah Al-Salim Al-Sabah; Marine Corps Gen. (ret) Walter E. Boomer and Ryan Crocker, dean of the Bush School.
Veterans can register here to attend. The general public is also invited and can reserve tickets by calling the A&M student center at (979) 845-1234.
