Young professionals take on Texas Contemporary Art Fair and it's fun for all
It seems that every non-profit in town, as well as for-profit entities, are realizing the value of the so-called "young professional" and are working to capitalize on that educated, successful group. So it should not be a surprise that the first annual Texas Contemporary Art Fair held a special party for members of more than 15 organizations courting the youth group.
The cocktail reception held at the exhibition at the George R. Brown targeted Houston art dynamos, basically under the age of 40, from groups such as the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston Collectors Circle, Houston Young People for the Arts and The Menil Collection Contemporaries.
At a party within a party, the Menil Contemporaries were hosted at a VIP reception that included a behind-the-scenes tour of the fair and one-on-one conversations with owners of Eli Ridgeway Gallery, David Shelton Gallery and Morgan Lehman. Welcoming this special group were Liz Anders of Kinzelman Art Consulting and Jennifer Hennessy of The Menil Collection. Also representing The Menil were Ryan Boehner, who heads the steering committee for the Contemporaries, and curator Toby Kamps.
After touring the fair, participants moved over to Isabella Court in Midtown for a gallery crawl where Inman Gallery, Art Palace, Bryan Miller Gallery, Kinzelman Art Consulting and Devin Borden Gallery opened their doors. With food trucks and plenty of libations on hand, the art talk and socializing continued well into the night.
The evening was organized by the Young Professionals Committee of the Texas Contemporary, a lively group that includes David Anders, Bevin Bering Dubrowski, Margaret and Bryant Fitts, Margot and Brett Hogan, Leslie and Mark Hull, Lauren Humphrey, Nicole Laurent, Caroline Starry LeBlanc, Jared LeBlanc and more.
