Santa and Reindeer Sighting at Party
Fertitta River Oaks mansion grander than the North Pole for M.D. Anderson Children's fundraiser
The stockings were hung by the chimneys (yes, chimneys) with care and St. Nicholas was already there when doors opened on the annual M.D. Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital "Santa's Elves" fundraiser, held at the River Oaks home of Paige and Tilman Fertitta.
On the 10th anniversary of the holiday-themed fete, The Events Co. dressed the expansive home and gardens with miles of garlands, a forest of Christmas trees and dazzling lights that wrapped the oaks which spread across the vast lawn. The Houston Children's Chorus was anchored on the curving staircase to welcome guests with their angelic voices while Santa was stationed in the backyard with his sleigh and two hay-munching reindeer.
As guests strolled the resort-like pool and garden setting on this balmy night, a string quartet performed while uniformed wait staff circled through making sure that all among the 400 supporters were well fed and watered. Landry's put on its always-amazing buffet spread.
The Galleria and Simon Property Group sponsored the festive party that raised more than $100,000 for the hospital's Arts in Medicine program. The Giving Tree with mystery pull gifts provided by Galleria luxury retailers raised more than $4,000.
On hand to thank supporters were founders of the "Santa's Elves" event — Patsy Fourticq, Gregory Fourticq Jr., Diane and John B. Connally III and Courtney Hill Fertitta and Jason Fertitta.
Joining this festive scene were John B. Connally IV, Nellie Connally, Janet and Mike Fourticq, Mary and Tim Cobb, Margaret Pearce and Eric Doyal, Brooke and Holding Rushing, Katie Lucia and Kyle Rottet, Dr. Roland Maldonado, Enid Sanchez, Patti Murphy and The Events Co.'s Richard Flowers.
