Stand up and cheer
It was a standing ovation in the ballroom of the Westin Galleria Hotel when a dozen Houston leaders were inducted into the Greater Houston Women's Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame at the organization's annual gala.
With close to 500 supporters, the evening was the chamber's most successful gala in its seven-year history. GHWCC is the largest women's chamber of commerce in the country.
"Houston is a remarkable city and tonight is more evidence of the generosity of its citizens," noted Chamber founder, president and CEO Suzan Deison. "These funds will enable us to enhance our program of work including education programs for girls, encouraging them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, arts and math, and the advancement and empowerment of women in business.”
Heading up the evening were chairs Denise Castillo Rhodes, Texas Medical Center executive vice president and CFO, and Samina Farid, co-founder and executive VP of Merrick Systems Inc. They were assisted by honorary chairs Dana Kervin Clark, Leisa Holland Nelson, Karen Love and Mary Ann Wilkins.
Taking bows as the Hall of Fame class of 2014 were Minnette Boesel, Cheryl Creuzot, Irma Diaz-Gonzalez, Jan Duncan, Melanie Gray, Dr. Ritsuko Komaki, Christine LaFollette, Robin Mueck, Dr. Lucy Puryear, Lauren Rottet, Cindy Taylor and Merele Yarborough.
