New neighborhood T-shirts give Montrose, Heights, Meyerland & Oak Forest residents pride — and style
Realtor Michael Wachs recently decided to make neighborhood varsity shirts so residents can show their neighborhood pride.
Before working in real estate, Wachs worked in graphic design in New York. One of several odd jobs he had at the time was working for a company that sold custom hoodies emblazoned with the names of different NYC neighborhoods. Wachs took this idea and decided to create his own Houston version with Montrose as the first neighborhood.
"I'm a fan of all the unique things that make an area a neighborhood," Wachs says. "Anything to help that pride a little is a good thing to me."
"Anything to help that pride a little is a good thing to me."
Not only do Wachs' shirts show residents' neighborhood pride, but they also support the community. Three dollars of each $23 Montrose shirt sale goes to HSPVA Friends, a charity for the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts where Wachs' wife is a teacher.
As more and more people showed interest in the Montrose tees, Wachs decided to create shirts for three more neighborhoods: The Heights, Meyerland, and Oak Forest. The shirts feature the founding date of each neighborhood, and just like the Montrose T-shirt, each shirt has a corresponding charity organization that receives $3 from every sale with donations going to Houston Rescue & Restore Coalition, Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services and Communities in Schools Houston, respectively.
Talk about a unique holiday gift idea. The T-shirts are available online.
