H-Town's young professionals morphed into snow bunnies and ski bums for an Aspen-themed fundraiser, "Ski the Green," complete with roasting S'mores, hot chocolate, rum apple cider and outfits geared for the slopes. Too bad, it was about 24 hours before the blue norther stormed through.
The Hermann Park Conservancy's Urban Green group transformed, as best they could on the mild and humid night, the Historic Clubhouse into a cozy ski lodge. Ski hats, neck scarves, boots and even fur attire begged for a snowy landscape. "Ski the Green" chairs Paula Whitten-Doolin, Oliver Doolin, Eve French, Courtney Carlson Siegmund and Brandon Siegmund saw to it that at least keepsake images of partygoers skiing down Aspen mountains were available via Smilebooth's animated green screen. Adding further alpine ambience, the ski film Aspen Extreme was projected on one wall of the "lodge."
DJ M-Cue kept the dance tunes churning while Saint Arnold Brewing Co. kept the suds flowing. The groaning boards, decorated in ski lodge style by Butter & Company, were laden with goodies compliments of Raising Cane’s, Adair Kitchen, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Pinewood Cafe, Paulie’s and Sprinkles Cupcakes.
One independent soul stood out amid the wintry-wishing crowd —Dan Piette, husband of conservancy executive director Doreen Stoller. In a nod to the balmy weather, he dressed as a water skier rather than a snow skier, his Hawaiian shirt a standout.
Among those dreaming of a white partyscape were Urban Green Steering Committee chair Catherine Bradley, Holly A.N. Smith, Pierce Bush, Kristen and Brett McDanald, Brittany Sakowitz Kushner and Kevin Kushner, Cassie Detering and John Milam, Francis Lim and Allison Greist, Rima Paralkar and Lee Chung.
