More Than A Million Reasons To Party
Children's Museum rakes in $1.1 million at rockin' "Back to the '80s" gala
Saturday night's downpour and flooding, complimentsof Hurricane Patricia, did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the 500 supporters who showed up at Silver Street Studios for the Children's Museum of Houston's rockin' "Back to the '80s" gala.
The only flood that mattered here was that of the proceeds that swelled beyond $1.1 million by night's end.
With the Spazmatics on stage and most of the partygoers in '80s style attire, this night rocked from the get-go. And what better welcome wagon than the shiny DeLorean at the entrance along with Back to the Future's "Marty McFly" and "Doc Brown," lined up by J&D Entertainment. DJ Darrell Ripley, specializing in '80s tunes, added to the Madonna/Michael Jackson vibe that had everyone dancing and singing along. Decor by Darryl Murchison further added to the '80s jolt.
Applause, applause for chairs Carmen and Butch Mach and Courtney and Bill Toomey, who led the partying throng. Kudos also to underwriting chairs Krystal and Garrett Thompson and auction Kelly Sklar. Lead sponsors taking a bow for the evening's success were BB&T and Phillips 66, which has been on board with this gala for 35 years.
Highlight of the night was drawing for the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust watch, complete with diamonds. Milessa Lowrie and Christie Sullivan chaired the raffle and drew the winning ticket that went to Nushan Daryabeygi, a BB&T customer.
The lively crowd included museum board president Geoff Bracken and wife Shelley, Houston Astro Jed Lowrie, Astros GM Jeff Luhnow and wife Gina, Viviana and David Denechaud, Jared Crane and Adrienne Sayward, Mollie and Dan Castaneda, Leslie and Jack Blanton Jr., Ashlee and Benton Love, Carrie and John Vallone, Winnie Simmons and Nic Phillips and Kim and Randy Petersen.
