Editor's note: In this new occasional series, CultureMap will take a closer look at largely forgotten nuggets of Houston history.
Thousands of Houstonians drive T.C. Jester Boulevard every day. It's one of the vital arteries in the city. Still more enjoy T.C. Jester Park.
But have you ever wondered who T.C. Jester the man was? Who earned these prominent Houston honors?
Turns out Jester was the fourth pastor at Baptist Temple from 1927 to 1950 as well as head of the Houston Planning Commission.
Word has it that the good pastor played a major role in keeping the demon alcohol from large portions of The Heights. So you can thank T.C. Jester the next time you show your "membership card" at Down House.
