New Highland Village furniture store draws in throngs of beautiful people for cocktail opener
It was one giant cocktail party as furniture titans Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams welcomed a throng of 700 of their new best friends from Houston to the opening of their Highland Village store. Guests lounged on comfy sofas and chairs in home-like vignettes throughout the large store and sipped signature drinks like the "Mitchell-tini" and "Bob on the Rocks" while hot Mexico City DJs Tom & Collins spun tunes.
Cordúa Catering staffers passed a bountiful array of hors d’oeuvres, including angel wings, lobster bisque, beef tenderloin crostini and pork sliders, along with bite-sized fried pies and cake in push-up pops. Guests also sampled delicacies from a bountiful taco station, pipette salad wall and an incredible cheese buffet by Houston Dairymaids and sweets.
Guests bid on three store shopping sprees — $10,000, $5,000 and $2,500 — in a silent auction, with all proceeds going to Dec My Room, a Houston-based charity that decorates the hospital rooms of children undergoing extended hospital stays due to serious illness.
Dec My room founder Susan Plank was on hand, along with husband, Mike. Others spotted in the crowd were Dominique Sachse and Nick Florescu, Brad Brandt, Kathy French, Courtney Barta, Tena Lundquist Faust, Tama Lundquist, Yasmine Haddad, Dr. Michael Yafi and Michael Cordua.
