To celebrate its 10th anniversary of showing at New York Fashion Week, J. Crew picked models from age 13 to 70 — "all friends of the brand, members of our team and all people we admire," officials explained — to showcase its spring 2017 collection.
The models, who seemed a little overwhelmed by the attention but nevertheless looked like they were having fun during a presentation of the collection, included an architect and amateur carpenter, a sailor and bartender, executive sherpa and amateur pop music historian, and a "dreamer, mother of three and jewelry designer."
They stood in family tableaus, wearing an array of fashionable but wearable clothes, including striped boatneck T-shirts, ruffled skirts, dotted sailor blouses and seersucker jackets.
For women, designer Somsack Sikhounmuong was a bit fashion-forward, with transparent dot crinoline skirts, paint-splattered jeans paired with a man's tuxedo shirt, patio-striped tunics and a slip dresses with creamy paillette feathers or silver sequins.
For men, the look was a bit more classic, with seersucker suits and two-tone chinos, although designer Frank Muytjens had fun with sweaters emblazoned with lighthouse "critters," madras suit jackets, pajama shirts and pants with a contrasting stripe up the side.
Indeed, there seemed to be something for everyone, no matter the age, body type or point of view.
