Where to shop in Houston right now: 10 totally cool spots for September

    Julia Davila
    Sep 13, 2019 | 1:30 pm

With school officially back in session, Houstonians are anxiously awaiting cooler temperatures, debating whether to white or not after Labor Day, and longing for layered looks. For fashionistas, this is typically a time to shop for the season’s transition.

So, as fall (slowly) returns, shop the latest from these hot names for an instant wardrobe and beauty refresh.

    Harrison Bell
Ahead of the Spring 2020 launch, the Fall 2019 collection focuses on play dresses. “My daughter [Harrison] is playful, so we kept that in mind.” When deciding to design for her children’s line, Hunter Bell says she was often taking fabrications from the women’s line and applying it to something mini for Harrison to wear. “It will be a dressier assortment, but the great thing is, is that the fabrics are printed on cotton, so it’s lightweight and easy to wear,” Bell says.

Harrison Bell is available in Houston at Itsy Bitsy Boutique, 2813 Westheimer Rd., and online at various retailers, including hunterbellnyc.com, Rent The Runway, and Maisonette.com.

    Katie Lynn Beauty
All eyes are on Katie Burns as she celebrates the fifth anniversary of her company, Katie Lynn Beauty. This month, she welcomes seven new products to her growing makeup line, including a baby pink blush with a velvet sheen finish, long-wearing lipsticks, and lip pencils in neutral hues, a silky highlight compact perfect to wear on your face or skin. A standout is a wet-to-dry eyeshadow in rich brown with a hint of copper sparkles — no streaking and double the wearability.

    Kendra Scott
The Austin native is giving back this September in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with two charms. The State of Texas Charm benefits MD Anderson’s Children’s Cancer Hospital, while the second, the Children Charm, benefits the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals nationally and supports Texas Children’s Hospital locally. Each charm was designed to be worn on a charm bracelet, charm necklace, or charm hoop earrings.

For the month of September, 50 percent of the proceeds of every purchase of these two charms, both in-store or online, will be donated directly to the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.

    Lesley Ann Jewels
This fine jewelry boutique recently unveiled five new exclusive designers, including Sylva & Cie, Arman Sarkisyan, Joon Han, Selim Mouzannar, and Jane Taylor. Whether you’re in the market for antique diamond pendants inspired by Art Deco or the go-with-everything accessory, stacking rings in colorful gemstones, you’re going to leave Lesley Ann Jewels with new staples that cannot be found elsewhere in Houston.

    Mi Golondrina
The Dallas-based brand is opening its Houston Hacienda Thursday, September 12, in Rice Village at 2528 Amherst St. The six-month popup, a first for the brand, will feature its women’s and children’s lines, the custom finish program, and exclusives from the popular Valle Feliz and Santa Maria blouses. “Houston has always been such a wonderful community to us, and we’re excited to finally be [here] for an extended stay as Houston Hacienda,” founder Cristina Lynch says in a statement.

    MIRTH
From solely focusing on caftans to listening to clientele and including tops, dresses, and, for Fall 2019, two jackets — a first for the brand — the peasant dresses in dark, romantic floral prints and tie-neck blouses are a nod to the '70s. “This is our interpretation of fall,” co-founder Katie McClure tells CultureMap. “Our fabrics tend to be lighter, soft, and flowier throughout the year, but [with this collection], we get into more fall colors and textures.”

    Pottery Barn
The Los Angeles-based designer-stylist duo known for the denim line Current/Elliott — which they have since moved on from — closed out their recent tour of Texas with a stop into the Pottery Barn in Highland Village to celebrate the launch of their Fall 2019 collection, full of bedding essentials in colors “that feel like your favorite jeans and army pants.”

Simon Beauty Week at The Galleria
Indulge in The Galleria’s first-ever Beauty Week from September 16 to September 22 with special beauty deals and the latest tips and trends in makeup and skincare. Participating retailers include, but are not limited to, L’Occitane, Lush, Morphe, and Origins. Shoppers who spend $100 or more during Beauty Week from the participating beauty retailers will also receive a makeup bag.

    Sunday Riley
If you’ve been searching for a skincare product that delivers plump, baby-soft skin, look no further than the latest launch from Sunday Riley. The Ice Ceramide Moisturizing Cream replenishes the skin while strengthening the skin’s natural moisture barrier. Beetroot and red algae extract balance dry, dehydrated skin as the fatty acids and antioxidants in pomegranate sterols protect the skin from environmental stressors.

Shop online now, at sundayriley.com and sephora.com, and in-store at all Houston-area Sephora locations starting September 20.

    Tiffany & Co.
The addition of Tiffany & Co.’s modern line, Tiffany T, includes pendants; square rings; and bracelets, in 18-carat yellow, white, and rose gold. Shop the collection in-store beginning September 16. It features elegant gemstones such as turquoise, mother of pearl, and black onyx.

FIGS will open its new Rice Village Community Hub on December 6.

Healthcare apparel company FIGS is opening its first brick-and-mortar store in Texas with a new Community Hub in Rice Village. The retail space is designed to serve both as a store and a gathering spot for the city's healthcare community.

The Rice Village location opens this Saturday, December 6, with a public grand opening event on December 13 from 6 to 8 pm featuring giveaways, music, food, and drinks from local vendors. Joining outposts in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and New York City, the Houston location is the fourth Community Hub for the company and the only location in the South.

The store will carry the full range of FIGS products, including scrubwear, loungewear, and accessories. It will also host events and programming focused on healthcare topics, offering visitors opportunities to meet and share experiences.

At the new FIGS boutique, shoppers will find the Color Clinic, offering scrubwear in core colors with rotating seasonal options. The store also has a Customization Station, which provides embroidery for names, titles, practice or hospital logos, and local icon options available only at Community Hubs. Personalization is also available for scrub caps, outerwear, and accessories.

The brand, founded in 2013 by Heather Hasson and Trina Spear, is known for fashion-forward medical uniforms made from a proprietary fabric with four-way stretch, antimicrobial technology, moisture-wicking, and wrinkle resistance. Hasson and Spear began selling directly to healthcare workers in Los Angeles-area hospital parking lots before growing their presence as an online retailer.

CEO and co-founder Trina Spear believes Rice Village was the perfect choice due to its proximity to the Texas Medical Center. She said the company wanted a space that supports Houston healthcare professionals and gives them a place to shop and connect.

"Houston is home to the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world, and we are honored to bring a FIGS Community Hub to this city. This space is designed to serve and celebrate Houston healthcare professionals," said Spear. "Our Community Hubs create opportunities for customers to not only shop in a way that never previously existed, but to connect with each other and with FIGS on a deeper level."
