Pearls and Positano
Pamella Roland unveils dramatic red carpet looks with pearls and Positano dreams
Italy sure seems to be a popular place for designers. While Christian Siriano looked to the isle of Capri, Pamella Roland was inspired by the cliffside village of Positano to create her spring/summer 2017 collection, which was unveiled at the Chelsea Piers during New York Fashion Week.
The collection, which will be available at Elizabeth Anthony, features soft, light shades, with a custom jacquard created from photographs of cloudscapes at dawn in sage white, gowns of hand-dyed and pleated ombre in shades of blue, matching the movement of the sea, and a minidress with a jagged lavender and blush pink stripe mimicking coral reefs.
Roland also livens up several looks with judicious use of pearls, placing them at the shoulders or along the bustline of several dresses. "People love pearls," she told vogue.com after the show.
Known for dramatic red carpet looks, Roland scores again, particularly with a nearly see-through silver gown embroidered with crystals in a web pattern, a princess-like strapless white gown with a billowing skirt and pockets, and a sparkling pale green body-hugging crystal-studded gown with scoop neckline that is guaranteed to turn heads.
