Texas clothing brand unveils fashionable fall collection for the modern gentleman

Hey, dude, it doesn’t matter whether you’re heading back to school or the office, want to dress to kill for a blind date, or just want to look dapper when heading out for a night on the town. If you don’t want to send off the vibes of a fashion victim, summon the style of a modern Texas gentleman.

Even if you don’t know your pocket square from your pocket knife or a jersey sweatshirt from the Jersey Shore, you can still rock a gentlemanly Lone Star style with the help of Austin-based menswear brand Texas Standard, which unveiled its fall 2021 collection this week.

Steadfastly devoted to “outfitting the modern Texas Gentleman,” Texas Standard sells its modern “wears” — ranging from Western shirts and guayaberas to denim items and accessories — from its flagship shop in the Hyde Park neighborhood, as well as at menswear retailers throughout Texas, and online.

“It doesn’t matter if you live in Texas, grew up here, or just embrace the ‘come and take it’ mentality. Texas style transcends state lines,” says Drew Bagot, co-founder of Texas Standard.

Texas Standard’s new fall collection features a few new apparel categories, including outerwear, as well as expanded clothing offerings, and seasonal options for the brand’s most popular designs.

Highlights of Texas Standard’s fall 2021 collection include:

    • The Borderland Vest ($99.50, sizes S-3XL), the brand’s first outerwear introduction, was designed with a form-meets-function approach, with its standard cut aiming to provide comfort and flexibility, while the lightweight poly-blend outer shell and knit back make for great layering. It’s available in Republic Navy and Guadalupe Green hues.
    • Texas Flannel ($114.50, sizes S-3XL), a modern take on a staple of a Texas gentleman’s go-to outfit, is available in four new color combos. The durable brushed cotton shirts have the look and feel of flannel without the weight — because, hello, guys, it’s almost always scorching in Texas. Ideal for Texas’ unpredictable fall and winter seasons, the flannels are named after Texas counties. Texas Flannels are available in Taylor, a gray-navy mini-houndstooth; Newton, a light-blue and navy-gray check; and Hidalgo, a solid light gray. Bestseller Dallas, a contemporary blue and white plaid, also returns this season.
    • Modern Western Shirt ($114.50, sizes S-3XL), which is handmade in El Paso by a third-generation shirt maker, offers a subtle Western wear option. It features Western-style yokes on the front shoulders and back, a pen/glasses hole on the embroidered chest pocket, cut cuffs, a hidden button-down collar, and buttons rather than pearl snaps. It’s 100 percent cotton and is the perfect length to wear untucked or dressed up. This season, the 21st-century take on the 19th-century staple is available in three new Texas county-themed color combos: neutral beige Cameron; gray gingham Haskell; and Sherman, a light-blue gingham.
    • Texas Check Sport Shirt ($114.50, sizes S-3XL), also hand-made in El Paso by Texas Standard’s multi-generational shirt maker and named after Texas counties, is featured in four new styles this season: 100 percent cotton Ellis, a green and navy gingham; 100 percent cotton Archer, with a solid-blue with navy windowpane; poly-cotton blends Smith, with a gray and white windowpane; and Webb, with a contemporary blue, red, and white windowpane. Details include a hidden button-down collar and corner-cut sleeve cuffs.
    • Tejas Guayaberas ($118.50, sizes S-3XL), a Texas Standard fave, include nine new color combos this season, in addition to the existing eight options. The brand’s modern take on the formal Cuban shirt is now available in Plata (black with silver); Diablo Rojo (red); Diablo Verde (green), and Diablo (black) embroidery; Gruene (cream with green); Prickly Pear (purple); Burnt Orange (orange); Red River (red); Flores (maroon and green); Seguin (silver); and Garza (gold) embroidery; navy with gold (Estandar) or silver (Armada Plata) embroidery; Burnt Orange with white embroidery; Maroon with white embroidery; and Benavides (blue with blue embroidery).
    • Performance Hybrid Quarter Zip ($84.50) comes in two additional color combos: Hunter Green and Sandstone, as well as last season’s popular Mockingbird Gray. Extra soft and lightweight, it’s great for layering and outdoor activities. The pullover is moisture-wicking and odor-resistant.

Additionally, Texas Standard will continue to offer some of its most popular designs, including:

    • Modern Western Polo ($74.50, sizes S-3XL), a polo shirt inspired by the brand’s modern Western shirt.
    • Throwback Sweatshirt ($38.50, sizes S-3XL), available in Republic Navy, Mockingbird Gray, and Hunter Green.
    • Standard Long-sleeve T-shirts ($37.50) made of 100 percent Peruvian cotton in 10 color options.
    • The PHT, Performance Hybrid T-shirt ($28.50, sizes S-2XL), designed for comfort, breathability, and versatility. It’s available in 10 colors.
    • Standard Pocket T-shirt ($34.50, sizes S-3XL) in Gunpowder Gray, Agave Green, and Steller Blue.
    • Game Day Sport Shirt ($99.50, sixes S-3XL) in six micro-check color combos.
    • A collection of unique heritage printed T-shirts ($34.50, sizes S-2XL).
    • Accessories like caps, patch hats, the modern ranger belt, trays, key fobs, and wallets.

“Our collection was designed for the modern Texas gentleman, whether he works behind a desk or a tractor, wrangles kids or livestock, brands cattle or companies,” says co-founder Christine Bagot. “You don’t have to live in Texas to be a modern Texas gentleman.”

Athleisure giant Lululemon opens Houston flagship with in-store cafe

Hundreds of shoppers lined up for the grand opening of the first-ever Lululemon x La La Land Kind Cafe store opening in Highland Village on December 19 .

Athleisure giant Lululemon is back where it all started. The brand has opened a massive new Houston store at Highland Village, returning to the shopping center that launched its Texas retail run in 2007. This time, however, it is not a small boutique. It is a full-scale flagship store with the first-ever La La Land Kind Café inside, giving Highland Village one more reason to draw a crowd.

The cult-favorite café serves exclusive drinks created just for this location, including a Double Chai Latte and Coconut Cloud Matcha. In-person shoppers can score drinks at 50 percent off through January 4 and via the app through January 16.

La La Land Kind Café also joins Lululemon’s Partner Perks program tied to Lululemon Membership, giving members access to select benefits. It makes it easier for shoppers who treat errands like a routine to use coffee as a delicious reward.

The new store is directly next door to the brand's first Texas outpost, which made Highland Village ground zero for Lululemon's growth in the state. At 9,400 square feet, the outpost is among Lululemon’s largest in the country. The space, previously owned by Smith & Wollensky, traded steaks for elevated sweat-sesh style.

Shoppers can expect a light, bright, and spacious shopping experience with a full range of products for both women and men. The store features branded apparel from the Lululemon x La La Land Kind Café collaboration, as well as a limited-time sweatshirt designed by local graffiti artist Donkeeboy, available as a gift with purchase (over $300, while supplies last). Adding to the local appeal, the store features a mural by Texas-based artist Kyle Steed.
