Houstonians might be escaping the torrid Gulf Coast heat with their lengthy summer sojourns to Aspen, but there is no escaping the needs of the city's non-profits which seem to be taking their dog-and-pony shows to this high-altitude aerie in record numbers.
The Nature Conservancy, which has beaucoup supporters with summer homes in Aspen, dispatched Texas state director Laura Huffman to the mountains to round up a covey of interested parties. She partnered with Denise Monteleone, who opened her mountainside home for the cocktail gathering that drew a who's who of summer expats no only from Houston but also from Dallas, Austin and other Lone Star cities.
With spectacular mountain views serving as a splendid backdrop for discussions on preservation, Huffman talked about the Conservancy's new urban conservation initiative and historic water legislation to be voted on in November.
Houston supporters in the mix included Clayton and Shel Erikson, Kay and Ned Holmes, Sara and Bill Morgan, Jana and Scotty Arnoldy, Susan and Dick Hansen, Marie and Bill Wise and Mindy and Jeff Hildebrand.
