Celebrity Serve
Superman TV anchor and Wonder Woman judge mix with real-life heroes at Celebrity Serve
The otherwise trés sophisticated Tony's restaurant was overrun with cartoon characters on Sunday when local celebs donned Superhero costumes for the annual Celebrity Serve benefiting ESCAPE Family Resource Center.
Could you have ever imagined KHOU Channel 11 morning news anchor Ron Trevino strutting through Tony's in a Superman suit? Or Judge Bonnie Hellums costumed as Wonder Woman? Who wouldn't love KHOU meteorologist Chita Johnson as Thor, Goddess of Thunder or the High-Tech Texan Michael Garfield as Mr. America.
These and other characters were part of the "Superheroes" theme of the evening. On the serious side, real-life heroes such as NASA astronauts Gene Cernan and Walt Cunningham and Navy Seal Rob O'Neill, said to have fired the shots that killed Osama Bin Laden, were honored guests at various tables around the restaurant.
Celebrity Serve founding chairs Joan Schnitzer Levy and Gerald Franklin once again chaired the dinner evening that drew 250 guests and raised more than $300,000 for the non-profit.
Among the caped crusaders serving the delish four-course dinner were Robert "Clutch" Boudwin, Roseann Rogers, Lara Bell, Todd Ramos, Edward Sanchez, Robert Sakowitz and Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo president Joel Cowley, channeling Clark Kent with horn-rimmed glasses and a Superman T peaking out from beneath his starched button-down.
The lively party throng included Melissa and Doug Schnitzer, Helene and Dror Zadok, Kristi and John Schiller, Courtney Zubowski Haas and Dr. Eric Haas, Peggy and Kerry Mazoch, Felicia and John Crowley Sr. and Dina Fontenot with Rudi Pljnnaken.
