Immunizations lunch tells a heartbreaking vaccination story and fights the flu
What: The Immunization Partnership's fifth annual "Community Immunity" spring luncheon.
Where: At River Oaks Country Club.
The 411: Kim Cotner David, Dr. Kelli Cohen Fein and Dr. Lindy Upton McGee chaired the luncheon that featured guest speaker Joe Lastinger, who lost his 3-year-old daughter to the flu prior to the time when flu vaccines were recommended for all children. On a happier note, the luncheon honored former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, his wife Barbara Richardson and his sister Dr. Vesta Richardson with the Ralph D. Feigin, M.D. Award for Excellence, the three recognized for championing immunization education and their vaccine advocacy for preventable diseases.
Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and Gwen Emmett were honored with the John R. Boettiger, Jr. Award for Community Partnership. Serving as honorary chairs of the luncheon were Debbie and Vidal Martinez.
Who: Faces in the crowd included Susan Feigin Harris, Michelle Boettiger, Jacquelyn Cox, Leisa Holland-Nelson and Robert Davenport, Flo McGee, Whitney Walsh, Drs. Julie and Mark Boom.
