Dining with the elephants: Houston Zoo VIPs enjoy quite a unique champagne experience
What: The Houston Zoo Asante Society spring dinner al fresco.
Where: On the grounds of the Houston Zoo.
The 411: More than 220 members of the upper level donor group were whisked from zoo gates to the McNair Asian Elephant Habitat for a most interesting cocktail hour during which champagne flowed and the pachyderms exhibited a certain sangfroid amid the socializing. The eight senior elephants mingled while 10-week-old Duncan snoozed in his bed in the elephant barn. On this lovely evening, guests then moved on to the reflection pool where they dined under the oaks glittering with Tivoli lights.
Who: The animal-loving group included Houston Zoo CEO Deborah Cannon, Zoo director Rick Barongi, Anne and Charles Duncan, Bobbie Nau, Kathrine McGovern, Nancy and David Pustka, Suzanne Nimocks, Demi and Ron Rand, and Kathy and Marty Goossen and Rocco, the African crested porcupine.
