The lowdown: Five Houstonians were honored at the biennial Texas Medal of Arts Awards, which recognizes "amazing Texans who have made powerful contributions to the arts here at home and around the world." The awards are given by the Texas Cultural Trust. Host Debbie Allen led guests through the ceremony, which started with pink carpet cocktails and included performances from Conspirare, Vikki Carr, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Nizhoni Begay, and Luke Westerman.
Who: Houstonians honored included former Houston Ballet principal dancer Lauren Anderson, arts patron Lynn Wyatt, singer Yolanda Adams, actress Renee Elise Goldsberry, and singer Kenny Rogers.
