Hello Kitty Truck Arrives
Hello Kitty's "super cute cafe on wheels" plans first Texas appearance in The Woodlands
Hello Kitty fans across the Houston area will be trekking to The Woodlands this weekend for the first Texas appearance of the Hello Kitty Cafe Truck. Originally debuted in October 2014, the self-described "super cute cafe on wheels" serves up snacks and sells memorabilia.
While the truck's imminent arrival might only seem to appeal to a niche audience, Hello Kitty is a certified cultural phenomenon. Just ask the truck's 47,000-plus Instagram followers, who support the its mission of "spreading Sanrio’s message of happiness, friendship, and fun while offering yummy goodies to Hello Kitty fans of all ages."
In New York, devotees waited up to three hours to purchase items from the truck. Usually, New Yorkers only wait in lines that long for Cronuts or tickets to Hamilton.
The good news, at least according to this review on Popsugar, is that the treats are worth waiting for. "When I finally found a spot to sit down and enjoy my long-awaited snacks, I wasn't disappointed — in fact, I was impressed with the moist sweetness of the petit fours and refreshing tartness of the strawberry lemonade," author Brinton Parker writes.
Besides, the snacks are surely cheaper than a ticket to Taiwan aboard the EVA Air Hello Kitty-branded Boeing 777-300ER.
Fans who are already committed to spending the weekend at the Anime Matsuri convention should take heart. The truck will be in Dallas March 12.
Find the Hello Kitty Cafe Truck at The Woodlands Mall on Saturday from 10 am to 8 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm.
