New Uptown Park restaurant shutters after less than two years: Owner vows to return with a better concept
Woodlands import 1252 Tapas has closed its Uptown Park restaurant location. The restaurant's owner will maintain the lease on the space, which will reopen with a new concept in approximately 90 days under the direction of 1252 executive chef Mercedes Gomez.
"We thank our customers for their support of 1252 throughout the concept’s year and a half in Uptown Park," a spokesperson said in a statement. "A lack of a consistent following prompted us to reconcept and remodel."
Despite 1252's success in The Woodlands, the restaurant has struggled to expand. A location in the Vintage Park shopping area near Tomball closed last July. Yelp reviews for the Uptown Park location are generally positive, although some diners complained about small portions and high prices.
When it reopens this summer, the restaurant, which has yet to receive a new name, will feature an expanded kitchen and a redone patio. Whether those changes, along with a reworked menu, will be enough to draw in more consistent crowds remains to be seen.
