Pierre Pincemaille, a master of improvisation and organist for the historic Basilica of Saint-Denis in Paris, France, is bringing Parisian style and riveting virtuosity to Houston for a one-night-only performance at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.

Pincemaille will perform the beloved French Romantic works of Durufle and fiery liturgical improvisations on the Co-Cathedral's groundbreaking Pasi organ. This organ is revolutionary in its design, much like the French Opus I of Saint-Denis was when it was first introduced in 1840 by the famous organ builder Aristide Cavaille-Coll.

It was a striking innovation to 19th-century organ craft due to its so-called playing actions that featured Barker levers. The ingenuity of the Co-Cathedral's Opus XIX takes the craft to new 21st century heights with its playing action featuring an electromechanical grand choir, also the first of its kind.

The concert celebrates this bridge between two technological advances in organ music with a special concert.

After obtaining five first prizes from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and five Organ International Prizes, Pincemaille was appointed organist of the Cathedral of Saint-Denis in 1987. He has performed under the direction of renowned conductors including Mstislav Rostropovich and Myung-Whun Chung.
