Southwest Airlines launches new nonstop Houston flight to Dominican Republic
Dallas-based (and Texas-loved) Southwest Airlines has been expanding its international offerings over the last couple of years, adding service to Mexico and the Caribbean to its flight list.
Now, the airline is at it again: beginning June, 2019, Houstonians can fly nonstop between Hobby Airport and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. According to a Southwest Airlines press release, the nonstop flights are season offerings for the summer months.
The new nonstop flights will depart Saturday mornings at 10:15 am, landing at Punta Cana airport at 3:30 pm. Return nonstops depart Saturdays at 4:25 pm and land back at Hobby Airport at 7:40 pm. Current pricing shows a “Wanna Get Away” one-way fare for $386 on the outbound and $406 for the return.
Houstonians can already ready fly to the DR on Southwest, with daily flights that offer connections through Fort Lauderdale, Florida or Atlanta, making total trip time between eight and nine hours. The airline also provides vacation packages, partnering with Dominican Republic resorts like Dreams Punta Cana and the Majestic Colonia Punta Cana.
With its wide beaches, scenic mountains and colonial architecture, the Dominican Republic has become a hot vacation destination. Set in the Caribbean between Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and Cuba, the island lures luxury seekers and rustic living lovers alike, who can swim, hike, sail, fish, or settle in and be pampered in one of the all-inclusive resorts.
And with the time saved on those nonstops coming next summer, Houstonians will have more hours to play in the sand and surf.
