Iconic Texas landmark is high on the list of America's best free museums
Looking for some no-cost fun that's not too far from home?
ThePointsGuy.com recently named the Alamo in nearby San Antonio one of the best free museums in the U.S. "Representing a tragic chapter in American history, the Alamo nevertheless remains a point of pride in Texas, and more than 2.5 million visitors pass through it each year — for free," boasts The Points Guy writer Eric Rosen.
Texans may be a little biased, but the Alamo is truly an experience that feels like you’re walking through history. Visitors can explore the landmark's multiple buildings, which have been conserved and preserved by great effort.
The museum showcases a collection of historic documents, artifacts, and replicas. And, along with the rest of the San Antonio Missions, the Alamo is now a designated World Heritage site. Just last week, UNESCO celebrated the World Heritage Inscription of the "largest collection of Spanish colonial architecture in the U.S."
"The Alamo is a convenient, fascinating stop on any visit to the city," Rosen adds, noting its location in downtown San Antonio and proximity to shops, bars, restaurants, and the River Walk.
The Alamo ranks No. 3 on the list, behind the new Broad museum in Los Angeles and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
Missing from the list, surprisingly, was Houston's Menil Collection.
Mexico Ceaty will bring several concepts to the Shops at Rivercenter.
