What do Margaret Williams and Southwest Airlines have in common? GoodSamaritans, both
Philanthropist and cultural arts maven Margaret Williams is frequently in the spotlight at charity luncheons and dinners but we don't ever recall her sharing honors with an airline. So it was an entertaining first when Williams, Southwest Airlines and authors Ron Hall and Denver Moore were each honored as exemplifying the Samaritan spirit at the annual Samaritan Celebration benefiting the Krist Samaritan Center.
As Gerald DeSobe, executive director of the center, said in a prepared statement, "We had the privilege of honoring some extraordinary individuals and an outstanding organization this year. Each one of our honorees truly exemplifies what it means to be a Good Samaritan . . ."
The dinner evening at River Oaks Country Club raised more than $300,000 for the center's counseling and mental health services, which are provided to those in need on a sliding fee scale, and celebrated the center's quarter century of providing these services.
Chairing the fundraiser were Carole and Ronald Krist. They were joined in celebrating the recipients of the Samaritan Spirit Award by Susan and Dick Hansen, Diane and Brian Kingshill, Carol and Michael Linn, Marsha and Jim Braniff, Annette and George Strake, Christy and Lou Cushman and Carol and John Howenstine.
