Texas forever: Goode Company celebrates 35 years with country-cool anniversaryparty
To celebrate an incredible 35 years in business, Goode Company could have thrown itself a glamorous shindig, but that wouldn't be nearly as fun or as characteristic as the bootscooting hootenanny that took place at Armadillo Palace.
The crowd danced to the tunes of Texas country music legend Billy Joe Shaver while sipping on Shiner longnecks and specialty cocktail drinks, including an Old Fashioned infused with smoked brisket, with guests including Robb Walsh, Morgan Weber of Revival Meats and Louisiana Foods' Jim Gossen, all dressed up in boots, buckles and their other cowboy finest.
Other guests gathered in the makeshift cigar lounge smoking Hight Cigars that were handrolled on site and snapping up posters proclaiming "You might give some serious thought to thanking your lucky stars you're in Texas," screenprinted using barbecue sauce as ink.
In his signature 10-gallon hat, Levi Goode (joined by wife Kelley and other members of the Goode family) paused to toast to his father, Jim Goode, who founded the barbecue joint on Kirby in 1977 and whom Levi Goode called his mentor.
But what's a Goode company party without the food? With a whole pig roasting on a spit to make late-night pork tacos and stations for fried oysters, tamales and prime rib sliders, this was an anniversary party worthy of a Houston restaurant empire.
